[Global Network Reporter Yin Yanhui] The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government News Network issued a press release today (24) that the Special Administrative Region Government published a notice in the Gazette today announcing that the Wan Chai, Eastern and Southern District Councils had eight elected members vacant.

According to the press release, eight elected members must leave their posts in accordance with Article 21 of the Oaths and Declarations Ordinance (Chapter 11).

The 8 district councillors are Yang Xueying (Wan Chai District Council Tai Hang Constituency), Leung Pak Kin (Wan Chai District Council Tai Fo Hou Constituency), Wei Shao Li (Eastern District Council Lei King Wan Constituency), So Yat Hang (Eastern District Council Aldrich Bay Constituency), Chen Wing Tai ( Eastern District Council Siu Sai Wan Constituency), Lai Tsz Yan (Eastern District Council Jia Xiao Constituency), Peng Zhuoqi (Southern District Council Stanley and Shek O Constituency), and Cai Zhiqiang (Eastern District Council Chui Tak Constituency).

According to Hong Kong media reports, Cai Zhiqiang was DQ (disqualified) due to his absence from the first district councilor's oath on September 10. Although the remaining 7 people attended the oath, the commissioner for oaths had doubts about the validity of the oath. After considering the written replies of the relevant district councilors and all relevant information, the commissioner for oaths determined the oaths of the 7 district councilors in accordance with the principles laid down in the interpretation of Article 104 of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and relevant legal provisions. Take the oath of invalidity.
