Beijing Normal University responded to "Girls in mixed dormitories suggested that boys should not take the elevator": Understand and deal with

Recently, a post that boys and girls in a mixed dormitory of Beijing Normal University quarreled in the group because of sharing elevators, aroused heated discussion.

On September 23, Yuan Hui, executive deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee of Beijing Normal University and director of the press center, told The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) that various departments of the school are currently "understanding and processing."

A staff member of the Logistics Management Office of Beijing Normal University said that the leaders have paid attention to the matter and "are actively thinking about some measures."

According to the online WeChat chat records, in the WeChat group named "2020 Master Property Service Group", there is a WeChat user who said, "Could you please emphasize with the new downstairs boys that you don’t need to take the elevator if you don’t need to carry heavy objects." Now, especially when the girls in our building are really embarrassed when they take the elevator after taking a shower, thank you!"

Next, the remarks aroused the support of several classmates, which were later partially questioned and opposed, and some conversations with insulting words also appeared in the group chat.

Some people questioned that this was "privatization of public resources? Genderization of public resources?" Another WeChat user said, "Although I don't take the elevator, I swear to defend the right of Guo (boy) to take the elevator."

The Paper noted that the aforementioned discussions in the WeChat group triggered discussions on gender topics after being forwarded on social media such as Weibo, Hupu, and Zhihu.

On the 23rd, a staff member of Beijing Normal University's Office of the General Secretary (Logistics Management Office) said that the leaders of the Logistics Management Office have paid attention to this matter and "are actively thinking about some measures now."

The aforementioned staff member stated that there was some hype in this matter, "Now the leaders are discussing and waiting for the results of the follow-up discussion."
