• Since Tuesday, the food aid association has been touring five municipalities in the department.

  • The goal is to distribute the equivalent of 1,500 meals per week.

It is the 34th distribution center in Loire-Atlantique. But the first of its kind. Since Tuesday, a new truck in the colors of the Restos du Coeur has been crisscrossing the north of the department. After a stop this Tuesday morning in front of a municipal hall in Notre-Dame-des-Landes, the team of three volunteers took the road to Héric, where she will stay all afternoon. "We have identified these municipalities as" white zones ", with a certain number of beneficiaries of the RSA but also among our beneficiaries, explains Joseph Hamon, the deputy departmental manager. If these people in need cannot come to us, for lack of transport in particular, then we had to be able to reach them. "

Equipped with a refrigerator and a freezer, this traveling center is set up as a small mobile grocery store.

Meat, preserves, dry products ... Fruit and vegetables are also provided to some 25 families (according to the association's estimates) who will come every week at each stop, such as in Blain on Monday afternoon or Herbignac then Saint- Joachim on Thursday.

Poor workers and students

In total, this new center aims to distribute the equivalent of 1,500 meals per week free of charge.

"Food aid is a key entry," continues Joseph Hamon.

For example, a lady asked us if we had any books for next week, we will try to meet the needs as well as possible.

"

Some 20,000 people are currently among the beneficiaries of Restos du cœur in Loire-Atlantique.

A figure that has increased in recent months due to the health crisis.

To welcome these new audiences, and in particular poor workers or students, a Nantes center now offers an evening opening and Saturday morning.
