According to plans by Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn, children from 12 to 17 years of age and pregnant women should still be able to get free rapid corona tests "by the end of the year".

"The vaccination recommendation came only recently for both groups," said the CDU politician to "Welt".

You would therefore have the chance to get vaccinated during these weeks.

This is to be regulated in a new test regulation that implements a federal-state resolution.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Prime Ministers had decided that the federally financed offer for free citizen tests for everyone should end.

"From October 11th, citizens' tests will be charged for everyone who could be vaccinated," said Spahn.

A vaccination is a free personal decision, but it is also about mutual protection.

"If you don't notice it and don't get vaccinated, you have to pay for the tests yourself."

Free tests should generally remain possible for everyone who cannot be vaccinated - including children under the age of twelve.

A first draft for the new regulation initially envisaged that tests for children from 12 to 17 years should be free until November 30th.

Incidence continues to fall

There is currently hardly any momentum in the infection process in Germany.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the seven-day incidence of new corona infections as of Thursday morning is 76.3.

For comparison: the previous day the value was 77.9, a week ago it was 83.5.

The health authorities in Germany reported 12,925 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.

This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 04.23 a.m.

A week ago the value was 15,431 infections.

According to the new information, 68 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 50 deaths.

The RKI has counted 4,114,856 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

Almost 93,000 dead

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Thursday at 1.87 (Wednesday: 1.88).

A weekly or monthly comparison is not possible due to the high number of late registrations.

A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences.

The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,863,000.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 92,837.

Moderna recommends booster vaccination

In view of new data on its vaccine, the US vaccine manufacturer Moderna has spoken out in favor of booster vaccinations.

Subjects who were recently vaccinated (around eight months after the first dose) had a lower risk of a so-called vaccination breakthrough than those who had their first vaccination a year ago, the company said on Wednesday (local time).

"The increased risk of vaccination breakthroughs in COVE study participants who were vaccinated in the last year compared to those who were recently vaccinated illustrates the effects of declining immunity and underscores the need for a booster dose to maintain a high level of protection." , explained company boss Stéphane Bancel. The vaccine remains highly effective for up to six months - also in view of the high increase in delta cases, Moderna emphasized.

In Germany, people who are particularly at risk can be vaccinated a third time if the last vaccination was at least six months ago. In Israel, all citizens are even offered a booster vaccination. The World Health Organization (WHO) is critical of booster vaccinations in view of the large number of people who are still unvaccinated, especially in poor countries.
