The statue of Nio in the 15th century in Naha, which was destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa at the end of the Pacific War, was restored and opened to the press on the 17th.

The restored statue is the former King of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Bodaiji Temple, which was located at Enkakuji Temple in Naha City.



The statue of Nio is believed to have been made around the 15th century, but it was destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa at the end of the Pacific War, and although some of the hands and hips remained, the overall picture was lost.

At the Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum, where the restoration work was carried out, we will clarify the appearance by interviewing people who know the appearance before it was destroyed and examining another statue made around the 15th century. bottom.



Then, over the course of six years, the statue of Nio, about 2 meters and 50 centimeters in height, was restored using the materials used at that time.



The restored statue of Nio will be open to the public at the Kyushu National Museum in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture from 19th next month.
