[Explanation] At 4:33 on September 16, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in Lu County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province (29.2 degrees north latitude, 105.34 degrees east longitude) with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake caused some houses to collapse.

According to information from the Propaganda Department of the Luxian County Party Committee, as of 7:30 that day, the earthquake had caused 2 deaths, 3 serious injuries, 57 minor injuries, and 6,904 relocations.

After the earthquake, all parties quickly rushed to help, and relevant rescue work is being carried out urgently.

After the earthquake, the Sichuan Fire Fighting detachments and the Sichuan Armed Police Corps Hospital all activated emergency plans as soon as possible, and organized personnel to urgently assist Luxian County.

It is reported that at present, 35 residential houses in Lu County have collapsed, 188 houses have been seriously damaged, and one station has been damaged.

The wall of Luxian Passenger Station is severely cracked.

In the early morning of the same day, the Sichuan Earthquake Administration held a press conference.

According to comprehensive analysis of regional structural characteristics, historical seismic activity levels, and seismic sequence characteristics, experts believe that the possibility of a larger earthquake in the region in the near future is unlikely, but aftershocks will continue for a period of time, and attention should be paid to the prevention of subsequent aftershocks.

The possibility of a larger earthquake in this area in the near future is unlikely, but the aftershocks will continue for some time.

During the rescue and rescue process, attention should be paid to the prevention of subsequent aftershocks. The seismic fortification intensity of the area near the epicenter is 6-7 degrees, and it is unlikely that the earthquake will cause serious damage in the later period.

[Explanation] Zhang Zhiwei, deputy director and senior engineer of the Sichuan Seismic Station, said that since 2008, seismic activity in Sichuan has entered an active period.

Due to the eastward movement of the Bayan Har block, it is squeezing the Sichuan Basin, so seismic activity in the Sichuan Basin has also increased significantly.

Both the magnitude 6.0 earthquake in Luzhou, Lu County and the magnitude 6.0 earthquake in Changning, Yibin on June 17, 2019, are located in the Huayingshan fault zone.

From the current point of view, since this earthquake was recorded in history, there have been 4 earthquakes of magnitude 5 or higher within 50 kilometers of the epicenter. The largest earthquake was the magnitude 5.7 earthquake in Zigong City on February 14, 1896, targeting the Huayingshan fault. With the follow-up earthquake situation, we will also conduct a follow-up study and judgment based on our current observations.

[Explanation] The reporter learned from the Sichuan Provincial Emergency Management Department that as of 9 o'clock on the 16th, Sichuan Province has mobilized national comprehensive fire rescue teams, armed police, provincial rescue teams, safety production rescue teams, geological disaster professional technical teams, and medical A total of 2,182 rescuers and social forces rushed to the earthquake area to carry out rescue work.

At present, 6,904 people have been transferred and resettled.
