The evenings that followed the deconfinements are a bad example: the French drink less and less alcohol.

Much less.

A well-known phenomenon, but that the data from INSEE, used in this infographic from our partner Statista, allow us to better understand.

In the space of sixty years, between 1960 and 2018, consumption fell by half.

While a person in France drank an average of 200 liters of alcohol per year, this total has now risen to 80 liters.

Main drink impacted by this lack of interest: wine.

Its consumption has gone from 128 to 36 liters on average since the 1960s. Cider has also experienced a free fall.

At the same time, beer and spirits remained at equivalent levels, while quality wines and champagne gained new followers.
