On the French Mediterranean coast, seven people drowned while swimming in high waves on Wednesday - in different places.

Another is still missing, two were seriously injured, as the newspaper "La Dêpeche du Midi" reported.

The helpers moved out to fourteen drowning people in stormy seas with several helicopters.

Seven of them were saved and resuscitated.

The victims are between 64 and 73 years old.

The swimming accidents occurred on the coast between Montpellier and Béziers. After the end of the summer season, the beaches are no longer constantly monitored by lifeguards. Some places had banned swimming in the afternoon due to the weather.
