• With this first day of application of the vaccination obligation for nursing staff, nearly 350 people, and a hundred in the process of regularization, were suspended from the Nice University Hospital.

  • According to management, 95% of staff are vaccinated.

A percentage which worries all the same the unions in a period "when it is difficult to find qualified personnel".

  • One of the employees went on a hunger strike to protest this decision.

Of the 7,500 staff of the CHU hospital in Nice, "350 people were suspended this morning and a hundred is being regularized," said the communication from the hospital confirming information from

France Bleu Azur

.

The reason ?

They did not present proof of vaccination.

According to the August 5 law, all hospital occupations must justify a first injection, a vaccine contraindication or recent contamination from this Wednesday, otherwise they risk the immediate suspension of their employment contract, without remuneration.

Those who have received a first dose have one month to complete the second.

The hospital management is pleased to still have 95% of its staff vaccinated, according to information from the local radio. The hospital has also ensured that it is able to provide the entire range of care offered by the CHU "despite some difficulties in the management of patient flows or even in the emergency services".

But on the side of the unions, we are worried.

The departmental secretary of the Force Ouvrière health branch, Michel Fuentes, wonders: “Given the situation in the services, how will the executives manage?

How will the continuity of care be organized?

".

In a statement, the union underlines: "We point to the hospital workers as those responsible for the spread of the virus while there are still a few months, we lacked protection to work and that the conditions are always more degraded".

The federation had filed a national strike notice for the day.

Employee goes on hunger strike

Another strike is led by an employee of the CHU de Nice.

This Wednesday morning, Thierry, employed as a fire safety officer for twenty years, began a hunger strike, as

Nice-Matin

shared

.

Asked by the daily, he explains: “The pressure is too strong psychologically, if it were not the case, I would not cry today in despair.

The hospital calls us home to ask us about our vaccination status.

This Wednesday morning, two nurses left in tears from their services after being laid off.

Why not leave free choice?

"

He adds: “It's unfair what's going on.

At the start of the crisis, the hospital brought in nurses carrying the virus to work. Today we are treated as criminals because we refuse to be vaccinated.
