"It has been decided that girls continue to maintain educational care without compromising the safety of their peers." The Ministry of Education of the Junta de Extremadura has decided this Tuesday to

enable a separate classroom for the two sisters from Cáceres who refuse to wear masks in class

. They did not do it on Friday and not on Monday, due to the protests of the rest of the parents of students of the two classes involved: a fifth grade classroom - between 9 and 10 years old - and another third class, between 7 and 8 years old.

Both the first day of school -Friday- and the next, Monday, both were in the classroom and on the playground during all school hours without masks and the management of the center proceeded to notify the Education Inspectorate while making the decision to locate each one of them

near the windows of their respective classes and separated as much as possible from the rest of the students

. In the center there are a total of 448 students.

In fact, such was the uproar at the gates of the Alba Plata bilingual school in Cáceres that

the National Police made an appearance on the second day of school, both outside and inside the educational center

. The girls' parents had made it clear and in writing to the center's management before the start of the course: it was not a medical recommendation but rather they are 'deniers' and warned that they would not be put on during the course. Those same parents have taken and picked up their two daughters at the gates of the center, along with the rest of the parents, in these first days of the beginning of the year.

The rest of the parents of the students with whom the sisters shared the two classrooms had asked the Junta de Extremadura to make an urgent decision to the conflict because they did not want their children to be in school in the same classes as the two sisters if they were They were not going to have the mask on, due to the risk they were going to run.

In any case, some parents warned that

they would not have objected to these two sisters not wearing a mask if it were due to a medical prescription

for them, but this was not the case.

To avoid another social conflict in another educational day, the technicians of the Ministry of Education met early this morning with the director team of the CEIP Alba Plata de Cáceres and made the decision to enable an alternative classroom for the two sisters.

From the regional Administration they emphasize that

the mask is still mandatory by law in closed spaces from the age of 6

) and always and at all times in educational facilities, as indicated by the validated protocols also for this course, both from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Education. the autonomous communities. On the other hand, according to sources from the Junta de Extremadura, the right to education of minors also converges as it is included in the Constitution, so the legal services of the Ministry of Education have finally made the decision that the two Sisters will receive educational attention in a space in the center where there will be no more students.

The Administration also warns that the key measures to guarantee safety and prevention against Covid in face-to-face teaching continue to be the

use of masks, interpersonal distance, frequent hand washing

(or the use of hydroalcoholic gel)

and ventilation.

. If the first of these aspects (adds the Board), that of masks, is not used, the Administration must make an effort to maximize the intensity in the other three aspects ".

Before the Board made the decision to open another classroom, the center's AMPA did not rule out the start of protests or even the fact that children were not taken to class.

The Educational Inspection has brought the case to the attention of the General Directorate of Public Health because with this decision to enable a separate classroom, more teachers are needed, among other issues, to attend to their needs.
