Who says back to school, says finding accommodation for students.

The PAP platform announced that it was processing between 800 and 1,000 new rental ads on average during this period.

But beware, rental specialists between individuals are warning of the increase in scams and fraudulent ads targeting young people, reports BFM on Friday.

On its platform, PAP blocks between 40 and 50 advertisements every day instead of the usual 20.

The platform added that between 200 and 300 new listings are currently subject to a thorough check as they come from unidentified owners at PAP.

As of this summer, students represent 39% of all rental searches on the PAP site.

They are therefore often targeted by these scams.

Two types of scams

However, two types of scams have been identified by rental specialists. Scammers can either try to obtain money fraudulently or attempt to retrieve parts from a rental record to build fake consumer credit records. It is therefore recommended to never send money and / or documents from a file before a home visit, says the leading French real estate site.

Faced with these scams, and to protect young people, PAP has set up various tools on its platform.

A first check is carried out by algorithms.

It is able to identify the crooks and ban them from the site.

Then a second check is carried out, this time by the team of specialists who will reread the announcements and verify the personal information.

When a scam is detected, the ad is immediately deleted and "all the people who responded to the ad and whose contact details we have are contacted, ideally by phone or failing that by email," says the platform.
