On Saturday, September 11, on the Italian island of Lido, the closing ceremony of the 78th Venice International Film Festival took place.

The event was hosted by the actress Serena Rossi, known for her roles in the films Seven Hours of Seduction and From Naples with Love. 

In the main competition this year, 21 pictures were presented.

The jury was headed by South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho (Parasites).

Together with him, the winners were chosen by Chloe Zhao, Cynthia Erivo, Alexander Naneu, Saverio Costanzo, Sarah Gadon and Virginie Efira. 

The main prize of the festival, the Golden Lion, was awarded to Audrey Divan for the French drama L'événement (Event).

The plot is set in France in the 1960s around student Anna.

She has a promising future ahead, but the girl's life changes when she becomes pregnant.

According to the director, in her film she tried to describe what a young woman experiences physically and emotionally when she is forced to undergo an illegal abortion. 

The Grand Prix of the jury was awarded to the famous Italian director Paolo Sorrentino for the film "The Hand of God".

According to the director himself, this tape is partly autobiographical.

It tells the story of 17-year-old Fabietto struggling to find his place in life.

The film also features some of the important events that Italians witnessed in the mid-1980s.

Among them is the famous goal of Diego Maradona, after whom the painting is named.

New Zealand director Jane Campion, who presented the dramatic western Dog Reign at this year's festival, received the Silver Lion for Best Director.

Starring Thomasin Mackenzie and Benedict Cumberbatch, her film follows the uneasy relationship between two brothers who own a large ranch.

The special jury prize was taken by the Italian director and screenwriter Michelangelo Frammartino, who directed the film "The Hole" (Il buco).

Maggie Gyllenhaal, best known as an actress, received the Best Screenplay award.

She presented the drama film The Lost Daughter at the festival.

Observing the communication of a young mother with her daughter, his heroine recalls the horror and confusion that she experienced after giving birth.

The Volpi Cup for Best Actor went to Filipino John Arsilla, who starred in the miniseries At Work: Missing 8.

The best actress is Penelope Cruz.

She starred in the film Parallel Mothers by Pedro Almodovar.

It tells the story of two women of different ages who met in the hospital on the eve of giving birth.

A casual acquaintance will develop into a close connection, which will have a great impact on the lives of both heroines.

According to Almodovar, this role was the most difficult in Cruz's career.

Filippo Scotti, who starred in The Hand of God, won the Marcello Mastroianni Prize for Young Actors.

The best film of the Horizons program was the Lithuanian dramatic thriller Piligrimai (Pilgrims).

The director was Laurinas Bareisa.

A special jury prize was awarded to Ciro Russo's film El Gran Movimiento (The Great Movement).

The prize for Best Director went to Eric Gravel, who directed À Plein Temps.

Leading actress Lor Kalami received an award in the acting category.

A similar prize in the male category was awarded to Piset Chhun for her role in the White Building film, co-produced by Cambodia, Qatar, France and China.

The best short film in Horizons was Los Huesos (Bones) by Cristobal Leon and Joaquin Cosigna.

The prize for the best script was awarded to Ivan Ostrokhovsky and Peter Kerekesh for the drama "Censorka".

The Luigi de Laurentiis Lion of the Future Award for Best Debut Film went to Imaculat authors Monica Stan and Gheorghe Ciper-Lillemarc. 

The Jury Grand Prix in the Venice VR Expanded section went to Goliath: Playing with Reality, while the Best Interactive Project went to Spanish director Blanca Li, who presented Le bal de Paris de Blanca Li (Paris Ball Blanki Lee ").

Finnish director Teemu Nikki's The Blind Man Who Did Not Want To See Titanic won the Armani Beauty Audience Award.

Three feature films from Russia were presented at the Venice Film Festival this year. The film "Captain Volkonogov escaped" by Natasha Merkulova and Alexei Chupov entered the main competition, the film "Mom, I'm at home" by Vladimir Bitokov - in the new section "Horizons Extra"), and the project "Bypass Routes" by Ekaterina Selenkina was shown in a parallel program for debutants "Week of Criticism". All three works were left without awards.
