On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the deadliest attacks ever perpetrated in the United States, RFI offers you a dive into the World Trade Center district, 20 years later.

 It is 8:46 am on the morning of September 11, 2001 when America is turned upside down.

New York hit in the heart.

After being struck by two planes, the legendary Twin Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed in a pile of dust, debris and ash.

The financial district on the southern tip of Manhattan, the economic heart of the country, will take years to erase the stigma, years to rebuild itself.

20 years later, a symbol of a resilient America, but one that does not forget, lower Manhattan has been rebuilt, but also transformed.
