A rare appearance by the veteran French star, Alain Delon, in Paris, as he attended the funeral of the late famous French cinema Jean Paul Belmondo, who died last Monday at the age of 88, at the age of 88.

Belmondo, a charismatic actor who performed stunts himself in films, went from being the star of what is known as the new wave of French cinema in the 1960s to commercial cinema, and became one of the most important and popular heroes of comedy and action in France.

The late star's family and film industry figures including Delon and director Claude Lelouch gathered at Saint-Germain-des-Pres church in central Paris for the funeral, a day after a memorial service spearheaded by President Emmanuel Macron.

Dillon, 85, stood for a time in front of the church, where he was greeted by Belmondo fans who gathered outside.

Dillon told Europe 1 Radio that he was deeply saddened by the passing of the artist who had lived with him.

He added, looking moved, "We both made French cinema, he and I are icons of French cinema, you can't talk about one without the other."

We're the same age, and it won't be long before I catch up with him."
