When I grow up, I become another you

Education is a relay but also a heritage

  Fan Weichen

On September 10th, our country ushered in the 37th Teacher's Day.

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Education, the total number of teachers in my country has reached 17.929700. Among the nearly 18 million teachers, there is a group of people: they are like-minded colleagues in the workplace, but when they return home, they are parents, children or Brothers and sisters, they are teachers, friends, and family members. They are a family of teachers.

Some people say that the appearance of education in the eyes of a child is the appearance of a teacher.

Indeed, the biggest influence teachers have on children is not what knowledge they teach them, but to live themselves as role models for children and let them grow into better people than role models.

When the teacher is also a parent, this influence is even more subtle.

Many people compare teachers to spring silkworms and candles. They are talking about the spirit of selfless dedication of teachers. In the teachers' families, these spirits are transformed into the preparation and correction of homework every night in the middle of the night, and every time to promote with students and parents. Long talks, the growth story of every "special" student, the joys, sorrows, sorrows and joys of every student...

In the ears and eyes of every day, children regard their parents or their parents as their own role models.

The ideal seed naturally took root.

So, "When I grow up, I will become another you."

In some families, two, three, or even several generations are teachers. They influence and encourage each other, turning a person's career into a common cause of several generations.

According to media reports, in the deep mountainous area of the northern foothills of the Dabie Mountains, there is a family of educators rooted in grassroots education. There are 11 teachers in the five generations, spanning 3 centuries, and the total teaching experience has reached 276 years.

It is this generation of teachers who have brought group after group of children out of the mountains, giving them a better future, and promised a better tomorrow for the country.

It is the wish of every teacher to let children surpass themselves. Education is not only a relay, but also a kind of inheritance.

Choose one thing for a lifetime.

Generations of teachers are continuing to move forward and pass on from generation to generation!

Xu Dandan: Ignite the dreams of rural children in the parents' advice

China Youth Daily·China Youth Daily reporter Yang Jie

Xu Dandan's life revolved around the school.

When she was a child, she lived with her grandfather and often watched him go to school and work on an old bicycle.

Since the 1970s, my grandfather has served as the principal of Longdong Primary School of Hainan Hongguang State Farm.

At that time, nine-year compulsory education was not universal, and the development of rural education was still in its infancy.

There are only 8 teachers in the school.

In addition to teaching tasks, the eight teachers left the class, put down their pens, rolled up their sleeves, rolled up their trouser legs, and planted sugarcane, rice, and cut rubber.

When the food is ripe, the school sells it and uses the food income to subsidize the school's scarce funds.

In 1985, the "Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Reform of the Education System" was issued, requiring that the responsibility for the development of basic education be delegated to local governments and the nine-year compulsory education should be implemented step by step.

Also in this year, Xu Dandan's father Xu Huanfu stood on the three-foot podium of Chengmai County Guanzu Primary School.

And this rural elementary school is struggling to "break the ground" from the mud.

There is no car on the road to the Guanzu Primary School. There is only a winding dirt road. If you step down, if you have more strength, your shoes will still be on the ground after you lift your feet.

The school classroom is an adobe tiled building with air leakage on all sides.

In 1991, Xu Dandan's father was transferred to the principal of Bocai Primary School in Chengmai County.

The shortage of teachers, lack of water and electricity, and lack of dormitories are still problems for rural schools.

There is no water, the teacher takes the students to pull the tube to divert water; there is no bed, the teacher raises funds for the students to buy wooden planks and make plank beds; there is no table, and long desks are built with wooden sticks; there is no infirmary, and some students are injured, father Even night, they rode a motorcycle and took the students to a hospital more than ten kilometers away for stitching and bandaging.

Growing up, Xu Dandan was taken to his parents, and this is another new school, Fushan Town Central School.

The family was crowded in the school dormitory. In her impression, a typhoon blew down one wall of the tiled house in the middle of the night.

Later, as soon as the typhoon day came, the family had to move to the flat roof room of the classroom.

In 2001, the "Decision of the State Council on the Reform and Development of Basic Education" was issued, requiring the adjustment of the layout of rural compulsory education schools in accordance with local conditions.

Rural primary schools and teaching sites should be appropriately merged under the premise of facilitating students to enroll nearby, and necessary teaching sites should still be retained in areas with inconvenient transportation to prevent students from dropping out due to the adjustment of the layout.

At the Fushan Town Center School, there was no teacher's office at that time. She watched her parents take homework homework, piled on top of each other as high as a palm.

Parents make corrections page by page at the desk, and use a red ballpoint pen to make notes on the notebook.

At that time, she was still young, and she didn't understand why her mother's lesson plan was so densely written.

She wondered, should adults also do homework?

The mother told her that the teacher must write down the lesson plan clearly in advance to know what to teach in class.

She doesn't know what a teacher is.

All I know is that my mother taught art painting by herself, gave art lessons to the children, and taught them to write down the beauty of the countryside one by one.

I don't know what a good teacher can change. I only know that everyone from small vendors to drivers on the streets of the small town will greet her parents kindly and call "Mr. Xu" and "Ms. Wang".

When she was a child, she felt, "Teacher is a profession that requires the spirit of hard work."

After graduating from high school, her father encouraged her to engage in education.

Therefore, Xu Dandan chose a normal school.

It coincided with the state's decision to implement a special job plan for school teachers in rural compulsory education.

In 2006, the plan called for open recruitment of college graduates to teach in rural schools in the western "two bases" attacking counties, so as to gradually solve the problems of insufficient rural teachers and unreasonable structure, and improve the overall quality of rural teachers.

In 2011, after graduating from university, she became a special post teacher in the rural area of Changwen Primary School, Shifu Central School in Chengmai County.

In rural schools in the 21st century, teachers no longer need to work in the fields, and teachers no longer need to make teaching aids. However, Xu Dandan found that the problem of weak teachers in rural schools is still serious.

Changwen Primary School is located in a remote mountain village in Chengmai County.

The school has a two-story teaching building with 6 grades, 6 classrooms, and 6 teachers. It is 10 meters away from the teaching building. There is a row of flat-roofed rooms as teachers’ dormitories.

Every teacher here is "all-rounder" and teaches in multiple subjects.

When he first came to the school, music teacher Xu Dandan did not understand other subjects, so he could only immerse himself in reading books and study the teaching modes of various subjects. He moved the Chinese class to the school's reading room and organized the ancient poems into a "tree of knowledge" for students to recite and dictate.

As the third-generation teacher in his family, Xu Dandan found that there were some dramatic similarities between his and his father’s classrooms.

When my father talked about "Let's Swing the Sculls", he liked to play music before class to increase the fun in class.

She also likes to add music elements to the classroom. There was a lesson where children were taught how to sort and sort. It happened that there was a song called sorting and sorting songs. When the class started, the music played, and the first grade children immediately became happy. Sing along to the song.

The topic of more education was "put" on the family dinner table.

After becoming a rural teacher, Xu Dandan discovered that the guidance of a teacher can ignite the dream of a rural child.

In Changwen Elementary School, many children have not been exposed to vocal music and dance. In her spare time, she took the children to study together and formed a dance team. During the training, some students passed the dance and passed the exam to another better school.

She also communicated with her father about the management of disobedient students in the class.

There was a child who occasionally made a big noise in class and occasionally bullied other classmates.

Her father told her to encourage and care more about the "bad students" in the eyes of teachers.

Therefore, in class, Xu Dandan would praise him in front of the class because he answered the questions loudly, and would reward him with a small stamp because he did his homework well.

After a period of time, changes slowly took place in the child.

Once get out of class was over, she was organizing children to line up to leave school.

The child ran up to her and said in a low voice that he still had a new word that he hadn't finished writing. He wanted to turn off the lights and close the door after he finished writing in the classroom.

"Every child wants to be positive and to be praised by the teacher, and the teacher needs patience in the long-term education."

Xu Dandan has a deeper understanding of the profession of teacher. The inheritance from her parents is not only the spirit of hard work, but also the feeling of teaching and educating people. Such feelings include "dedication, love, sincerity... …" The most important thing is "a heart that loves students."

After becoming a teacher, she also gained the pure love of children.

On Teacher’s Day, Xu Dandan will receive a bunch of flowers from the children in the village. The petals are made of plastic, and the color is bright red and bright. There is a card in the paper box that says, “My favorite teacher Xu Dandan, Happy holidays!" She couldn't help but laugh at a glance, "Very simple sentences make people feel very happy."

The reform of rural education is also ongoing.

In Xu Dandan’s life trajectory, watching the brick and tile classroom in the photo turned into a concrete high-rise building, watching the dirt road next to the school turned into an asphalt road, and the children in rural schools have music classrooms and computer classrooms. Rural education is catching up step by step in terms of hardware and teacher resources."

Xu Quan: A family of teachers walks out of agronomy professors

China Youth Daily·China Youth Daily reporter Ye Yuting

"In my memory, starting with my great-grandfather, there have been too many teachers in the family."

Xu Quan is a young backbone teacher at Shenyang Agricultural University. As a post-85s, he is now a doctoral supervisor.

In the choice of career path, Xu Quan can be described as "the son of his father's career."

Xu Quan grew up in the teachers’ dormitory of Shenyang Agricultural University. He spent almost all his childhood in the experimental fields of the Rice Research Institute with his father. While playing in the fields, he watched his father conduct experimental sampling and character investigation. There is interest in important food crops that feed 50% of the world’s population.

His father Xu Zhengjin is the person who has the greatest influence on Xu Quan. Xu Zhengjin is a professor at Shenyang Agricultural University, a former member of the State Council Disciplinary Review Group, the director of the Key Open Laboratory of the Ministry of Education and the former Ministry of Agriculture, the leader of the crop science discipline, and the deputy of the Rice Branch of the Chinese Crop Society Chairman, Visiting Professor of Kyoto University, Japan.

His father's dedication in education and academics is an example for Xu Quan to learn from.

Like many experts at Shenyang Agricultural University, his father Xu Zhengjin did not have a well-known professor "Fan Er". He wore ordinary shoes and walked with wind.

For my father, doing scientific research doesn't need to be prepared and put in a stance.

In the experimental field, if he sees any rice seedlings that are abnormal, his father often says nothing. He takes off his shoes and socks, rolls up his trousers and goes straight to the field, pulls out the rice seedlings, confirms what the disease is, and then goes ashore to wash his feet. , Put on your shoes and leave.

One year, several colleagues from the Rice Research Institute of Shenyang Agricultural University selected seeds in Hainan, and my father happened to go to Hainan to participate in an international conference on global rice molecular breeding.

After the meeting, he came to the breeding base to select seeds with everyone.

Because this trip was here to participate in an international conference, he didn't bring down the work clothes that Tian Xuanzhong wore. He was tall, and he couldn't wear other people's work clothes.

Xu Zhengjin simply took off his outer pants and wore only a pair of underpants, and spent a whole day with his colleagues in the field.

In the evening, he put on his outer pants and returned to Shenyang by plane.

“When I was a child, I followed my father to catch frogs and dragonflies in the rice fields. Later, I gradually became more and more interested in the research my father was engaged in. I chose to volunteer for the college entrance examination, and I did not hesitate to choose the same profession as my father. My father is an excellent traditional breeder. However, in some more cutting-edge research directions involving molecular fields, he will be limited by his knowledge. I hope he can continue his unfinished business." Xu Quan told China Youth Daily and China Youth Daily reporter.

Xu Quan's mother, Zhang Suying, is a Chinese teacher at the 81st Middle School in Shenyang.

In Xu Quan’s childhood memories, her mother, who had been a head teacher for a long time, often went out early and returned late, and had little time to take care of Xu Quan’s daily life.

"My child, when you took the college entrance examination, my mother was not able to accompany you to the exam like the parents of your classmates did. She felt uncomfortable?" After Xu Quan's college entrance examination, his mother said this to him.

Because my mother was the head teacher in the third year of high school, more than 40 students in the class took the college entrance examination and had to stay in a hotel near the examination room, so she couldn't accompany Xu Quan.

Although I was aggrieved at the time, Xu Quan felt that this was normal afterwards.

"Because, this is my mother's job, and it should be like this. How can we say that'teacher is the most sacred profession under the sun', how can it be called a'spring silkworm' candle'? This is the mind of my mother. This is the case, and today’s parents are still like this. This is to educate the great minds and sentiments of the generations of the family. Not for the small family, not for money, not for fame and fortune, but for the career and dream of the generations. ."

In 2004, Xu Quan followed in his father's footsteps and was admitted to Shenyang Agricultural University, where he began to systematically learn agricultural knowledge.

After receiving his bachelor's degree in 2008, Xu Quan went to Kyoto University to study for master's and doctoral degrees.

During his study abroad, Xu Quan worked hard and mastered a variety of rice molecular biology techniques, and completed his doctoral studies in 2014.

Not only the parents, but the earliest family members of Xu Quan’s family to teach can be traced back to Xu Quan’s great-grandfather, who taught in elementary school for more than 10 years.

In addition, his maternal grandfather was the principal of the primary school affiliated to Dashiqiao Normal University, and his maternal grandmother was a teacher of Liubai Primary School in Boluobu Township, Dashiqiao.

In the mother’s generation, uncles, aunts, second aunts, second aunts, and third aunts are all people’s teachers. Among the grandchildren, Xu Quan’s cousin is also a primary school teacher in Yingkou City.

Xu Quan’s grandfather was once the director of Jingtun Primary School in Boluobu Township, Dashiqiao City. Now, at the age of 96, although he is dazzled, he remembers the names of the students and what happened while he was teaching very clearly. Teaching, he will come to the spirit immediately.

"Except for the children in our family who are still in school, everyone else is the people's teacher." When taking a family photo, my grandfather said proudly.

Because the whole family is a teacher, there are fewer opportunities for family reunion if they are involved in education.

Once I had time, I would gather together at my grandfather's house. Everyone's topic was also education. They exchanged their experiences in teaching work, summed up successful and failed teaching experiences and the joy of work.

The teaching experience of my grandfather and grandmother for many years is a valuable asset to the family, and the younger generations often ask them about the problems encountered in teaching.

Today, as a college teacher, Xu Quan has once again returned to the campus where he grew up.

In November 2015, Xu Quan was introduced to the School of Agriculture of Shenyang Agricultural University through high-level talents, and was hired as an associate professor to become a people's teacher.

Since joining the work, he has been working on the front line of education and scientific research. In 2019, he was promoted to a professor and was selected as a doctoral supervisor in 2020.

Xu Quan has been engaged in molecular biology research with the goal of high-yield, high-quality and high-efficiency rice since his master's period, and has provided molecular design breeding strategies for the beneficial genes of the hybrid subspecies of indica and japonica rice in different rice regions in my country.

Xu Quan said, “I have brought 8 master students and two doctoral students. I don’t think that the age gap between myself and them is very big. I can still understand and understand these young people. What are the learning points of ordinary students? , And even the confusion in life, will also talk to me. Our teacher-student relationship should be relatively equal. When we encounter any problems, we will communicate in a way that is also a teacher and a friend."

Compared with other majors, learning agriculture is not an easy major. In Xu Quan's view, choosing and persisting in this field does require a lot of courage, but it can also gain a great sense of accomplishment.

"This subject is really hard, because in addition to normal teaching, you also need to engage in some agricultural labor and go to the fields. In the eyes of many people, this is more'earth'. Although it is very hard, being a teacher and classmates After months of hard work and finally harvesting the food, this kind of joy is not something other professionals can experience." Xu Quan said.

In Xu Quan's view, college teachers have different characteristics from other teacher groups.

They need to take on multiple responsibilities such as teaching, scientific research, and serving the society.

Cultivating more and more outstanding students who study agriculture and love agriculture, and at the same time have certain breakthroughs in scientific research, and can contribute to local agricultural production, this is his career pursuit.

"To achieve these three goals is full of difficulties and challenges. From the perspective of a teacher, I hope that through my own guidance, more outstanding young people can choose agriculture, and use the knowledge learned to develop our agricultural country. Make more contributions." Xu Quan said.

Zhang Qincong: "Teaching Three Generations" of "Leading Snails for a Walk"

China Youth Daily·China Youth Daily reporter Wei Qimeng

After 14 years of teaching, Zhang Qincong, a teacher at Wenzhou Special Education School, has taught elementary and junior high school students, and has been a teacher of mathematics, Chinese, art and life adaptation.

Her students often need to start learning common sense of life such as knowing food and expressing the willingness to go to the toilet; if she can't buy teaching aids, she will arrange classrooms with colleagues and make teaching aids by herself; because of the exaggerated facial expressions and body movements used for many years in teaching, Teachers will have more wrinkles on their faces than their peers... What makes her special is that she is engaged in special education.

Zhang Qincong described the special education career as "walking with snails": even if you understand that snails are walking slowly, you still have to be patient and lead them step by step.

Compared with able-bodied children, children with hearing, vision, and intellectual impairment require teachers to pay more patience, care and love-this is what her grandmother and mother often encourage her.

Zhang Qincong was born in a special education family in Wenzhou.

His grandfather Zhang Zhongming had a fever and was deaf when he was young. He studied at Shanghai Fudu School. After returning to Wenzhou, he and several classmates founded the first deaf school in southern Zhejiang in 1946, the predecessor of Wenzhou Special School.

In 1979, due to the limited scale of the school, it was unable to recruit more students. The retired Zhang Zhongming and his wife and their daughters Zhang Peizhi and Zhang Peibi founded a school for the deaf in Hutou, Yueqing.

In the 1970s, Zhang Qincong's uncle Zhang Jianhao and mother Chen Huhu also joined the team of teachers in schools for the deaf.

When she was a child, Zhang Qincong lived with her grandparents in Yueqing for a few years. Until now, she still remembers her grandfather's severely deformed fingers due to long-term wax engraving.

She once heard her elders talk about the difficult process of establishing and operating a school for the deaf.

Before the founding of the People’s Republic of China, all industries were abandoned, school funds and teachers were severely lacking, grandparents frugal and living expenses were spent in the school.

My grandfather insisted on engraving and transcribing the teaching materials by himself, which caused serious deformation of the finger bones.

After the school was taken over by the state in 1952, her grandmother Huang Canxia has been in charge of general affairs. In order to save national expenses, she did not reimburse a penny of transportation expenses for the purchase of office supplies, books and books. Ride a tricycle to transport, push and run by yourself.

At that time, my grandmother was rated as an advanced education worker in Wenzhou every year.

When he was a little older, Zhang Qincong returned to live with his parents.

In my impression, my mother often takes a girl home during holidays, and she seems to care more about her than she is.

Later she learned that the girl was an orphan. On holidays, she watched her classmates being taken home by her parents, and she had to go back to the orphanage, which made her feel very sad.

Under the guidance of her mother, the girls were admitted to Zhejiang Vocational College of Special Education after graduation and got a good job.

Whenever Teacher's Day, Mother's Day, Women's Day, the mother will receive the greeting cards made by the students. She regards these cards as treasures.

Even though he grew up in such a family and was full of respect for the teaching profession, Zhang Qincong in high school was reluctant to engage in the education industry.

At that time, she had her own interests and expertise, and wanted to apply for a popular English major.

But her grandmother told her that her grandfather's last wish is that at least one of his grandchildren can continue his deaf education career.

As the youngest child of her family's peers, she was a well-behaved and obedient student who applied for the Nanjing Special Education College with regret.

In the beginning of the 2008 school season, the first class Zhang Qincong took after entering the school was the first grade of elementary school.

Although she has learned the theory of hearing impaired education and participated in various practical activities organized by the school, the work of the deputy head teacher still poses a great challenge to her.

"Some of the freshmen are 9 or 10 years old. The whole class has been messy and noisy. Some children drag their parents to go home. The class is like an eagle catching a chick. Just push this down, and that one runs again. Come and go."

Difficulties can't frighten the young and passionate Zhang Qincong.

She started by teaching common sense in life, cultivating children's behavior habits little by little, and often stayed two or three hours more after get off work at 4 o'clock to help students do their homework.

At home, she would talk to her grandmother and mother about new things in the class, student behavior and emotional problems.

The two often told her that although deaf-mute children can sign language, sign language is much poorer than words. They cannot fully express their inner thoughts and can easily feel pain. Therefore, teachers must steadily improve their teaching level and give more care to students.

At the beginning of the second semester, she will be qualified for the job of a class teacher.

In 2018, just as Zhang Qincong became more experienced and confident in his work in the school's enlightenment department, he encountered new problems.

With the development of medicine, the number of hearing-impaired students entering the school has gradually decreased. She responded to the school's call to actively transfer to the Enlightenment Department, which means that she must learn new professional knowledge as soon as possible and re-adapt to teaching life.

In her view, the world of Peizhi children is simple, gorgeous and mysterious. Although they are less intelligent, they are more enthusiastic and even moody. When they are furious, crying and even self-mutilating, the teacher But the reason is elusive.

With the help of experienced colleagues and volunteer parents from the Enlightenment Department, Zhang Qincong learned to discover the needs of children in the subtleties, and used methods such as loud praise and encouragement, and integration of life skills training into games to teach children to express their daily lives. As needed, reduce the frequency of tantrums.

Zhang Qincong told reporters that healthy children can make progress easily as long as they study hard, but it is very difficult for her students.

The sense of accomplishment of special education teachers comes from the small progress the students make in their behavior and habits every day, and for this little progress, the teacher has to put a lot of effort into it.

Zhang Qincong knows that special education can change the destiny of children through education, thereby reducing the burden on thousands of families and society.

"As a special education teacher, I don't expect to be full of peaches and plums. I only hope that the children can gain the ability to take care of themselves and even go to society and have a job to support themselves. At that time, my sense of accomplishment was enough."
