The candidate - they are becoming more and more important.

But what else influences my choice?

Knowing that could be crucial in the end.

Because elections in Germany have seldom been as exciting as the upcoming federal election.

Opinion research institutes publish new polls almost every day and show only one thing: whoever will come out on top is completely open.

What will ultimately be decisive? Which factors play a role if we cast our vote on September 26th - or already now by postal vote? Long-term party ties or current events such as the flood disaster and the debacle in Afghanistan? The still outstanding TV-Trielle? Or the program of individual parties?

We will discuss these and other questions almost three weeks before the federal election on

Tuesday, September 7th, starting at 6 p.m.

in the project

The Debate.

Two of Germany's most renowned election researchers, Prof. Dr. Sigrid Roßteutscher from the Frankfurt Goethe University and Prof. Dr. Thorsten Faas from Freie Universität Berlin and ZDF political barometer expert Matthias Jung from the Elections Research Group give insights into their research on voting behavior: When do we make a decision? Is there anything left to tear for the candidates in the election campaign? Why is one party closer to us than another? And what influence could the postal votes and non-voters have on the outcome of this exciting election?

In the coming days you will be able to read more background reports on the topic of voting behavior.
