In response to a series of serious counterterrorism deficiencies at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station of Tokyo Electric Power Company in Niigata Prefecture, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission conducted an on-site investigation to confirm the deficient equipment. bottom.

The on-site investigation began on the morning of the 7th, and members of the Nuclear Regulation Authority and inspectors confirmed mainly the equipment that had deficiencies in counterterrorism.

At the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant, since March last year, multiple facilities to detect intrusions such as terrorists have been destroyed, and the countermeasures after that have been insufficient. In addition, in September last year, employees illegally entered the central control room. There were a series of deficiencies.

For this reason, the Regulatory Commission issued an administrative punishment for corrective measures against TEPCO in April, and will receive reports such as cause analysis by the 23rd of this month.

In this survey, we confirmed the location of the sensor that detects intruders, and also investigated how they entered the main control room with another person's ID card.

Nobuhiko Ban, a member of the Regulatory Commission, said, "I was able to investigate nuclear security with a sense of reality by looking at the site without prejudice. I want to dig deeper. "

The Regulatory Commission says that it will start full-scale inspection after receiving a report from TEPCO, and the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant will continue to be unable to restart until it is judged that it has improved as a result of the inspection.
