Hollywood star Angelina Jolie, who also serves as a special ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said she sees the developments in Afghanistan as an example of a systemic political failure.

"Afghanistan is not just a slip or a single case," Jolie told the German weekly "Welt am Sonntag" in its Sunday edition.

It is a model.

It represents decades of neglect of human rights.”

The world famous actress added that "the whole world is facing a worse situation than it was 20 years ago."

"We have more unresolved conflicts and millions more refugees," she said.

The UNHCR Special Ambassador added: “I am thinking of all the women and girls who now don't know if they will ever be able to go to work or school again.

I think of young Afghans who have fears that they will lose their freedoms.”

The star had previously criticized the negotiations, conducted by the United States during the era of former President Donald Trump, with the "Taliban" group in Doha, which resulted in February 2020 an agreement on the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan.

"America should never have been involved in negotiations during which Afghan civil society and Afghan women were almost completely excluded...we should never have done that," said the US representative.
