Fifteen years after its only World Cup final phase, in 2006 in Germany (last in Group G with three defeats against South Korea, Switzerland and France), Togo is badly engaged in the qualifiers for

the next edition.

, scheduled for November-December 2022 in Qatar.

Dominated by Senegal

on September 1, Paulo Duarte's men suffered another setback against Namibia, their opponent on Sunday on the second day of these qualifiers in Group H.

Kambindu flies away, Namibia is jubilant

In Lomé, at Kégué Stadium, the Namibians took the upper hand against the Hawks. After the first double opportunity not converted by the locals, the visitors took control of the meeting. Absalom Limbondi took advantage of the wanderings of the defense to steal the leather and hit hard from a tight angle. Malcolm Barcola, the Togolese goalkeeper, gave him a firm hand (8th). Later, the doorman saved his family again by winning a head-to-head with Peter Shalulile. His intervention of the foot made the difference (31st).

But after the break, Togo gave in under the battering.

A Namibian free kick in the box was extended with a header by Vetunuavi Hambira, and Elmo Kambindu executed a nice chisel to finally beat Malcolm Barcola (53rd).

It was well worth a celebration "

à la Cristiano Ronaldo

 ".

Back to the wall, the Togolese tried to react, but the Brave Warriors defended their advantage effectively.

They could even have made the break, but Limbondi, left alone in the duel with Barcola, sent his shot on the post (75 ').

In the last moments, the Namibian curtain held firm.

While waiting for the match between Congo and Senegal, scheduled for Tuesday, September 7 in Brazzaville, Namibia takes the lead in Group H (4 points) with this precious away victory (1-0).

The Téranga Lions follow (3 points) ahead of Congo (1 point) and Togo, last with no point and no goal after two matches.
