Corona virus deniers storm the official TV in Slovenia

A group of coronavirus deniers and anti-vaccination activists stormed the building housing Slovenia's state television (RTVS) late Friday and demanded that their views be broadcast.

And the Slovenian news agency (STA) reported today, Saturday, that the police quickly ended the disturbance, and arrested 20 people who managed to storm the station's news studio.

"This is an unacceptable attack on media, journalism and democracy," said Manica Janezic Ambrosic, the station's news program editor.

The Slovenian Journalists' Association (DNS) said the incident was just a few of many in a "hate campaign" against the media fueled by the government of conservative Prime Minister Janez Jansa.

Television director Andrei Grah Watmo announced an increase in security measures.

Coronavirus deniers have been demonstrating sporadically outside the TV building for four months, harassing network employees.

One of the challenges, Watmo said, is that the area in front of the TV building is a public space, and therefore protesters are allowed to gather there.

Behind the incident is a movement headed by former army officer Ladislav Troha, a veteran of Slovenia's 1991 war for independence, according to the Slovenian news agency (STA).
