7.00 Persistent Covid: one in seven adolescents continues with symptoms 15 weeks after being infected, according to a British study

A British study reveals that 1 in 7 adolescents between the ages of 11 and 17 still have symptoms for up to 15 weeks after infection.

These are lower figures than estimated.

Previous studies suggest that more than half of children infected with coronavirus could suffer from this prolonged illness.

The researchers contacted 220,000 adolescents through the Covid test database carried out in the English public health system between January and March 2021 and obtained 17,000 responses.

About 30% of the positive cases confirmed three or more symptoms.

On the contrary, 16% of the negatives reported this fact.

Thus, the study authors concluded that the

14% of coronavirus-positive children had persistent Covid symptoms, with common symptoms being tiredness, headache, and malaise.
