  Zhou Tong, a student at the No. 1 Middle School in Huoqiu County, Anhui Province, was hit by a car accident in his second year of high school, causing his left calf to be amputated.

He has undergone 8 operations and missed school for 7 months, but never gave up his studies.

With the spirit of self-improvement, he achieved a good score of 684 points in the college entrance examination this year. He was also recognized by the Tsinghua University Self-improvement Program with a discount of 40 points, and was finally admitted to Tsinghua University for architecture.

  On the morning of the 2nd, after completing the registration procedures, Zhou Tong moved into the dormitory specially arranged for him by the school.

"This is a special arrangement for me. Because of my physical condition, the student apartments have upper and lower bunks, and I need to climb upstairs to sleep. The beds in the international student dormitory do not need to be up or down, so it will be more convenient for me to live." Zhou Tong Xinwang reporter said.

  For the upcoming college life, Zhou Tong pays much attention to the school's club activities.

He said: "I used to like to play table tennis, but now due to physical reasons, sports may not be good. But you can see what other clubs there are."

  Zhou Tong said that being able to study at Tsinghua University is a dream since childhood.

After graduating from university, he hopes to continue his studies and study in Tsinghua University.

  It is understood that 2021 is the 11th year of the implementation of Tsinghua University's self-improvement plan.

Up to now, more than 3,000 students from more than 700 middle schools in 28 provinces across the country have attended Tsinghua University through the self-improvement plan and the national special plan. Among them, a group of students have graduated and went to various industries built in the motherland.

This year, Tsinghua University admitted a total of 426 students through national and university programs, and 37% of the total enrollment plan was completed.
