Nike has chosen to offer five days off this week to employees at its headquarters in Oregon (United States).

Between Monday and Friday, employees are encouraged to use these days to take care of their mental health, reports the BBC.

The American giant has closed its premises to allow its employees to recover from a trying year, in particular because of the Covid-19.

The measure was announced on LinkedIn two weeks ago by Matt Marrazzo, the brand's global marketing manager.

“It's not just a week off for the team… It's recognition that we can prioritize mental health while doing our job,” he wrote.

Nike has indeed recorded this year increased sales and a 20% increase in the price of its shares on the stock market.

"Don't work"

“Take the time to relax, de-stress and spend time with those you love. Don't work, ”advised Matt Marrazzo. The official referred to the "traumatic event" constituted by the health crisis linked to the coronavirus. “We are all human beings,” he added. For the marketer, the week off will help employees "stay sane."

However, he also felt that these days without working would be “essential for good professional performance”.

After the end of these vacations offered by Nike, the company is optimistic that “positive consequences for the corporate culture will emerge in the future”.

The manufacturer of sporting goods is not the only one to have adopted this device to provide psychological relief to its employees.

LinkedIn, the Bumble dating app, Apple, Uber and Wells Fargo bank are also among the companies that have granted vacations or delayed resuming face-to-face work, such as Facebook or Google.
