Obesity has become an important public health problem affecting the health of Chinese residents——

National Fitness focuses on obesity prevention and control

  Our reporter Li Yuanhao

Recently, the news that a 12-year-old boy in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province was overweight and suffering from fatty liver caused widespread concern.

According to media reports, the boy usually likes to eat meat, sweets and fried foods. He weighs 15 kilograms more than the standard weight of children of the same age. The doctor recommended immediate intervention and treatment, otherwise it will seriously threaten his health.

The obesity problem of adolescents and even young children has repeatedly become the focus of public opinion in recent years.

In fact, the latest data from the "Report on the Status of Nutrition and Chronic Diseases of Chinese Residents (2020)" shows that obesity is widespread among people of all ages in my country-more than half of the adult population is overweight or obese, which is a national standard in my country. The proportion of obesity in the survey report exceeded 50% for the first time; 19% of children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 and 10.4% of children under the age of 6 also had problems with overweight or obesity.

At a press conference previously held by the National Health Commission, Kong Lingzhi, member of the Expert Advisory Committee of the Healthy China Action Promotion Committee, said that overweight and obesity have become important public health issues affecting the health of Chinese residents, and “prevention and control of obesity is urgent.”

"Three people must be fat"

August 30th was a working day, but when the reporter came to a weight-loss fitness studio in Dongcheng District, Beijing, there were still many students who came to participate in the "weight-loss course".

According to Han Junchen, a weight loss coach who has been in the field of sports weight loss for more than 10 years, “With the multiple growth of obese people in recent years, the domestic market for weight loss is strong. Weight loss training has formed an explosive growth across the country. At present, there is a large-scale weight loss training in China. There are about 300 camps."

According to business reviews, the weight-loss industry will become the next hot spot in the domestic health market.

The reason why weight loss has gradually become an industry is closely related to the growing number of obese people in China in recent years.

Judging from the statistical data of the "Report on the Status of Nutrition and Chronic Diseases of Chinese Residents (2020)", my country has 600 million people who are overweight and obese. More than 25%.

The number of obese people in our country is staggering. Although it has a lot to do with our population base, such a high proportion of obese people still requires the attention of the whole society.

According to Li Wenjian, director of the Key Laboratory of "Physique Evaluation and Motor Function Monitoring" of the General Administration of Sport of China, the "obesity" in statistical data and the "obesity" in our daily cognition may be two different concepts from a scientific perspective. .

"According to the World Health Organization (WHO) definition of adult overweight and obesity, to judge whether a person's body shape is normal, it needs to be measured by the body mass index (BMI)."

Specifically, the calculation formula of BMI is: BMI=weight/height square (international unit kg/㎡).

When the BMI is equal to or greater than 25, it is considered overweight, and when it is equal to or greater than 30, it is considered obese.

From statistical data, since the early 1980s, my country's adult BMI index has been increasing steadily.

From 2004 to 2018, the growth rate of obesity among Chinese men was significantly higher than that of women.

Physical intervention effectively solves the difficulty of losing weight

In response to the increasing number of obese people in my country, Li Keji, a professor at the School of Public Health of Peking University, once pointed out in a research report that changes in dietary structure, extreme lack of exercise, and the influence of social culture and traditional customs are the main reasons for the continuous increase in overweight and obesity. reason.

"The goal of obesity management has gradually expanded from the traditional simple weight loss to the improvement of overall health."

The reporter learned during the interview that, in order to solve the obesity problem that plagues many people, "stop your mouth and open your legs" is still the general consensus of relevant experts.

"The adjustment of eating habits is the core part of changing the status quo of obesity. In addition, it is to increase calorie consumption through the intervention of physical activity. The best way of physical activity is to exercise." Key Laboratory of "Physical Fitness Evaluation and Motor Function Monitoring" of the General Administration of Sports Director Li Wenjian said.

In the "National Fitness Plan (2021-2025)" officially issued by the State Council in early August, plans were made for how to solve health problems, especially obesity.

The "Plan" clearly states that it is necessary to promote the development of fitness activities for key populations, and conduct sports interventions on issues such as mass obesity.

It is reported that China has now included the implementation of a comprehensive prevention and control strategy for chronic diseases such as obesity in the "Healthy China 2030" Planning Outline, further focusing on the current major nutrition and chronic disease problems faced by the people.

The prevention and control of obesity should start from the baby

Under the background that the whole society is paying more and more attention to obesity, the problem of overweight and obesity among minors has gradually become one of the focuses of attention.

As mentioned above, the obesity problem of children in our country is already very serious.

"Prevention and control of obesity must start with the baby." Zhao Wenhua, chief expert on nutrition at the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said: "The problem of overweight and obesity in children under 6 years of age must be paid attention to. At present, the proportion of overweight and obesity in rural areas has exceeded that in urban areas."

According to reports, the National Health Commission has carried out regular monitoring of the nutrition and health status of residents to grasp the changes in overweight and obesity in children and adolescents in real time, with emphasis on the prevention of overweight and obesity.

Among them, the development of adequate sports is one of the important measures.

In addition, the All-China Women's Federation, the State Sports General Administration and other departments have jointly formulated and issued the Implementation Plan for the Prevention and Control of Obesity in Children and Adolescents.

The "National Fitness Plan (2021-2025)" clearly stated that it is necessary to promote the development of fitness activities for key populations, especially the implementation of sports activities promotion plans for young people, promote the youth sports "health package" project, and focus on the treatment of young people's myopia, obesity and other issues.

For example, the "Beijing Children and Adolescent Obesity Prevention and Control Implementation Plan" previously issued by Beijing clearly requires that the prevention and control of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents be combined with national fitness activities and promoted as a whole. Schools are required to ensure students' physical exercise time at school.

"Kindergarten children spend no less than 1 hour in physical activity every day, and primary and middle school students spend more than 1 hour in school with moderate and above-intensity physical activity every day. At least 3 hours of high-intensity physical activity per week are guaranteed."
