China News Service, Hong Kong, September 1 (Reporter Han Xingtong) The Hong Kong police arrested 15 people, most of them young people, during the summer vacation against drug trafficking on online social platforms.

During the operation, the police seized more than 126 kilograms of drugs with a market value of more than 140 million yuan (Hong Kong dollars, the same below).

The Senior Inspector of the Police Narcotics Bureau, Ng Ka Lun, briefed the media on the facts of the case and stated that the police conducted a “snake release” operation from August 25 to 31 to crack down on drug trafficking on online social platforms and arrested 15 people, involving 13 men and 2 women, aged between Between 21 and 37 years old, their crimes include drug trafficking, possession of drugs and possession of the first poison, etc. The police seized more than 126 kilograms of different types of drugs during the operation, with an estimated market value of about 147 million yuan.

At present, 10 of the 15 arrested persons have been temporarily charged with drug trafficking, and the rest are on bail pending further investigation.

Wu Jialun said that the common method of online drug trafficking is to put drug information including pictures and keywords on social platforms to sell drugs.

In addition to "snake release," the police also used intelligence-led methods to crack down on drug trafficking activities from the source. They smashed 4 drug storage warehouses in North New Territories and South New Territories, seized 124.9 kilograms of cocaine, 1 kilogram of marijuana, etc., and arrested 6 people.

Wu Jialun mentioned that the police noticed during the operation that most of the arrested persons were young.

In some recent cases, in order to avoid criminal liability, drug cartels lure young people to help them engage in drug trafficking activities, such as letting young people rent industrial units to store drugs, running errands to traffic drugs, etc. Sometimes the young people being used do not know that they are engaged in drug trafficking activities.

Wu Jialun reminds young people to be vigilant and not to take risks with a fluke mentality.

He once again emphasized that drug trafficking is a serious crime, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of 5 million yuan.
