The Gabon team's business got off to a bad start in qualifying for the

2022 FIFA World Cup

on September 1, 2021 in Benghazi.

While the Gabonese thought they had drawn a 1-1 draw in Libya, the Libyans won 2-1 in the dying seconds of this Group F meeting.

In the 95th minute, defender Sanad Masoud headed a ball delivered to the far post.

A goal quite similar to that scored by Ali Salama in the 27th minute (1-1).

Before that, the Gabonese had been rather convincing.

The Panthers had notably opened the scoring thanks to a beautiful curled shot from midfielder André Biyogo Poko (11th, 1-0).

But, on arrival, it was the Knights of the Mediterranean, coached by the Spaniard Javier Clemente, who took first place in the standings, thanks to this success.

Egypt also wins

They are followed by their Egyptian neighbors, 1-0 winners of Angola in Cairo thanks to a penalty from Mohamed Magdy Kafsha (5th minute).

On the second day of the group stage, the Gabonese will host the Egyptians in Franceville on September 5th while the Angolans will welcome the Libyans in Luanda on September 7th.
