The vaccine campaign against the coronavirus reaches a milestone this Tuesday.

"On August 29, we fell under the 10 million people who are not vaccinated" among French people aged 12 and over, the ministry said during an online press point.

"They are more than ever invited to get vaccinated, it is a public health imperative," adds the ministry, which says it pays "special attention" to the 600,000 people over 80 in this situation.

As of Monday evening, 48.5 million people had received at least one injection out of about 58 million eligible people, and 43.9 were fully vaccinated, while the vaccination obligation looms for many professions (including caregivers) mid- September and the entry into force of the health pass for adolescents at the end of September.

The government had set a target of 50 million first-time vaccines at the end of August.

This threshold will finally be reached a few days late, while the campaign continues at the rate of around 3 million injections per week, including just under 1 million first doses.

6.7 million of those left to be vaccinated are under 50

Those under 50 represent "the largest reservoirs of people who remain to be vaccinated" in absolute numbers.

Of the 10 million not yet immunized, there are 2 million 12-17 years old, 2.5 million 18-34 years old and 2.2 million 35-49 years old, detailed the ministry.

The methods of vaccination in schools are the subject of "decisions at the local level": some regions prefer "to send the young people concerned to vaccination centers", sometimes ephemeral, while others rely on "mobile teams that are will go to schools, "said the ministry, assuring that it" had no "lack of staff" to carry out these injections.

Transportation vouchers to get vaccinated

In order to reach the 600,000 people aged 80 or over who have not received any injection, the Ministry of Health is relying on various devices.

In addition to the calls and letters already set up by the Health Insurance, a new device is being tested in Vaucluse and Seine-Saint-Denis, with letters of "invitation" for vaccination including "a place, a date and one hour to be vaccinated ”as well as“ a transport voucher ”to overcome the difficulties of travel.

As of August 20, 19,000 treating physicians had asked Social Security for the list of their unvaccinated patients, the ministry also said.

82,000 booster doses in nursing homes

At the same time, the campaign for a booster dose of the vaccine in the elderly or frail, fully vaccinated for at least six months, will begin on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday morning, 1,500 nursing homes had ordered a total of 82,000 booster doses, the ministry said.

Regarding elderly people outside nursing homes and people at risk, who can reserve a time slot for their recall since Monday, nothing will prevent the making of appointments "for people who would have had their first vaccination five months ago" , specified the ministry.

Out of 18 million people affected in total, "12.4 million may receive a booster by the end of the year", given the date of their first vaccination, he added.
