The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, defends tooth and nail that Spain is being a "world benchmark" in immunization against SARS-CoV-2. In fact, it states that "

our country has become one of the places in the world with the highest vaccination coverage against covid

", which is "the 4th in the EU with the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated" and also occupies one of the first places in the international arena.

He stressed that

Spain "will meet the target of 70% between today and tomorrow

.

"

Yesterday, the figure was 69.1%.

Only 403,892 doses separated our country yesterday from the objective of having 70% of the total population vaccinated.

Darias has gone from giving figures 15 days ago of exceeding 70% of the target population (those susceptible to receive the vaccine, that is, only those over 12 years old) to the INE population (the total of all Spaniards registered in the National Institute of Statistics).

These statements by Darias are part of his appearance this Tuesday before the Health and Consumer Commission of the Congress of Deputies to analyze the national vaccination strategy and defend the different actions carried out by the national Executive in this area.

Among them is the open debate on the announcement made by the Sánchez Government last May of reaching the figure of 70% of the vaccinated population as of August 18 (at which time it only reached 63% of immunized).

Despite this, the minister stressed that "we lead vaccination with both a single dose and a complete schedule at the international level."

And he stated: "

We have been meeting the milestones

that we have set for ourselves since the beginning of this vaccination process. Now, after having reached 70% of the target population a few weeks ago (population likely to be vaccinated), we are about to de reach a new milestone: achieve that 70% of the INE population is vaccinated against covid after completing their regimen ".
