Sri Lankans are fighting plastic pollution in their country.

At the end of May 2021, a container ship containing plastic balls caught fire off the coast of the country.

70 billion balls are dumped in the sea and wash up on the beaches.

Despite the clean-up operations of the Sri Lankan authorities, these plastics are still very present on the beaches and in the water.

Faced with this, associations are mobilizing to clean the beaches.

This is the case of The Pearl Protectors and its volunteers, who compete in ingenuity to fulfill their mission.

To retrieve the logs, the volunteers have several techniques: manual, hanging, crank sieves, or the use of water basins to separate the logs from the sand… all means are good to deal with this pollution which threatens the ecosystem.
