The General Secretariat of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award revealed the winners of the "Instagram" competition for the month of July, whose theme was "Nostalgia".

The competition witnessed a deserved Gulf superiority, with Emirati photographers Ahmed Obaid Al Naqbi and Saudi Fahd Abdulaziz Al Odah winning, along with a list of winners that also included Indian Ganesh Prasad and Iranian Ahmed Salehi.

The four winners will receive the award’s appreciation medal, and their photos and names will be published on the award’s official account on “Instagram” HIPAae, and the July competition saw the use of the hashtag #HIPAContest_Nostalgia.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the award, Ali Khalifa bin Thalith, said: “Nostalgia for special details from the past is a broad title with which artists of all generations and most, if not all, fields of art intersect.

This nostalgia has a special fragrance that generates a specific feeling and that its owners like to express in many creative artistic methods,” adding: “Of course, the images here play the role of (time machine) with integrated success by collecting the situations and details that we feel nostalgic for.”

He congratulated the winners who deserved to be honored for their distinguished works, especially those who continued to participate among them, “they have all our appreciation, and in this the most informative lesson in perseverance and the secrets of winning.”

For his part, Emirati photographer Ahmed Obaid Al Naqbi said of his winning photo: "I took the photo in Masafi (the old fort) last January, as the goal of the photo was to highlight the heritage traditions and the simplicity of the old life in the UAE."

She added: "This is my second victory in the (Instagram) competition for (HEPA), and I have previously won many awards from international competitions.

This win will give me more motivation to participate in the competition and do my best to win more prizes.”

While Saudi Fahd Abdulaziz indicated, Al-Awda, that he took his winning photo in Trinidad - Cuba, in June 2019, explaining her story: "This man in the photo is a former military, and he keeps and is proud of the medals awarded to him in honor of his military participations."

He added: “This is my first win with the Hamdan bin Mohammed International Photography Award, and when I was informed of the victory, I was very happy and did not believe the news at first.

I aspire to go up on the Dubai Opera stage as a grand prize winner.

As for the Indian Ganesh Prasad, he took his winning photo in Port Stephens (New South Wales) in Australia, in March 2016, explaining: “I felt a connection with the Dubai desert, through the scene in the picture, and this really sparked my nostalgia for her,” adding: “It was previously He won some competitions at the international level, but winning in (HEPA) is a special moment in his life that I will cherish for a long time,” he said.

He continued, “I felt on top of the world when I saw my victory announcement on (Instagram).

Photography is my passion and I enjoy every moment of capturing the beauty of places, nature and streets, and winning the competition gave me a great motivation to discover more in the world of photography.”

For his part, Iranian Ahmad Salehi said about his winning photo: “I took it in 2013 in Myandashtar - Isfahan, Iran, while working on a social documentary film about the lives of the people of that region.

The character in the picture is an old woman who lives alone in a country house, and she died in 2017.

He added: “I participate in almost all (HEPA) competitions, and reached the final stage several times, so the news of winning was very happy and different for me. Success after effort and hard work is beautiful and proud of its owner.

I achieved my first goal, and the second is to win the grand prize for (HEPA), and I will work to achieve it with all my efforts.”
