Pistol that killed Billy the Kid sells for $6 million
The gun used to kill Billy the Kid, one of the most famous outlaws in the American West, fetched $6 million at an auction in Los Angeles, twice the presale estimate.
Bonhams' bidders said the gun was purchased at the auction over the phone from a person who asked not to be identified.
The pistol is a Colt and was used by Police Chief Pat Jarrett in 1881 to kill Billy.
The house said the pistol "is one of the most iconic treasures of the ancient history of the American West," adding that the $6.03 million price tag is a world record for any firearm.
