Game "rental number" bypasses real-name authentication

There are still loopholes in the anti-addiction system for minors

  Our reporter Yuan Lu

The summer vacation is drawing to a close, and the children on holiday are rushing to enjoy the relaxing and rare extracurricular time.

However, the children who are addicted to mobile games are staring at the electronic screens and have the idea of "bypassing" the game anti-addiction system through rental accounts.

The reporter's investigation found that a large number of game account rental platforms are currently active online.

The reporter's personal test found that although some platforms have set up a "real-name authentication" link to prohibit minors from placing orders, most platforms can still easily rent accounts in the form of "over-the-counter transactions", and make the game manufacturers' "anti-addiction system" useless. .

Kids rent a game account to bypass "anti-addiction"

"Obviously this game has a time limit for minors. Why can children still hold their mobile phones to play in one afternoon?" Recently, the citizen Mr. Hu found out that his 4th grade son always stays at home to play when his parents go out. "King of Glory."

What surprised Mr. Hu even more was that his son's game account reached the level of "34 stars for the strongest king", and he also had a lot of expensive game skins.

"This is outrageous!" Mr. Hu, who is engaged in the IT industry, was very confused, but his son told the truth: Under the introduction of his classmates, he found a game rental account platform to rent a game account.

"In addition to "King of Glory", you can also rent accounts for popular games such as "One Piece", "Call of Duty", and "Naruto"."

Mr. Hu told reporters that taking the "Rent X Cool" game account rental platform as an example, different "Honor of Kings" accounts have different rental prices depending on the number of heroes, the number of skins, and the rank.

"The cheap bronze trumpet is 70 cents an hour, and the high-end king account is around 5 to 15 yuan. It costs more than a dozen yuan to play in the afternoon. And parents think that children are ordinary snacks, which is very expensive. It's hard to detect."

The reporter noted that on August 4, Tencent updated its health system rules in order to further increase the protection of minors.

Among them, minor users of "Glory of the King" are banned from playing from 22:00 to 8:00 the next day. National legal holidays are limited to 2 hours a day, and other times are limited to 1 hour a day.

However, the practice of renting a game account directly makes the manufacturer's game anti-addiction system a decoration.

Uncertified journalists still "green light all the way"

The reporter found in the investigation that the current mainstream game account rental platforms on the market are mainly classified into two categories: one is operated on a scale of enterprises, the platform has a complete APP and web page, and users can directly place orders on the platform.

Take the "Rent X Play" game rental account platform as an example. The platform claims to have more than 50 million registered users and high-end game accounts worth more than 5 billion.

The other is operated by small and medium-sized studios and individuals, mainly relying on e-commerce platforms to engage in transactions.

In addition, some merchants use keys and other forms to bypass the platform, and "pay with one hand and deliver with one hand" with users.

On August 26, the reporter came to the "Rent X Play" game rental account platform. After entering from the web page, the reporter saw that a large number of popular mobile game accounts such as "Glory of the King", "Peace Elite", "QQ Speed" and other popular mobile game accounts were recruiting for rent.

Take "Glory of the King" as an example. The hourly rental price of a V9 account in the QQ Apple area is 5.5 yuan, the daily rental price is 71 yuan, and the overnight package price from 10 pm to 7 am the next morning is 25.6 yuan.

However, when the reporter placed an order, the website popped up a "real-name authentication" page, asking the reporter to enter the name and ID number, and indicating that minors were not allowed to place the order.

And to bypass this certification, you only need to go to Taobao to find a merchant to rent one.

Under the "guidance" of a minor, the reporter successfully contacted a seller.

The seller stated that the game account should be rented for at least 2 hours, and players can directly trade in the form of red envelopes without taking any products.

After selecting the corresponding game account and paying the red envelope, the reporter successfully obtained the login key of a certain sign-in device APP, and successfully logged in to the King of Glory with the account of another person.

Game "rental account" exposes real-name supervision loopholes

In recent years, my country has continuously increased the supervision and control measures for juvenile game addiction.

On October 25, 2019, the National Press and Publication Administration issued the "Notice on Preventing Minors from Indulging in Online Games", implementing a real-name system for accounts, strictly controlling the time and duration of games for minors, and the content of paid services for minor players Make clear requirements.

On June 1, the newly revised "Minor Protection Law" officially implemented clearly stated that network service providers such as online games should set up corresponding time management, authority management, consumption management and other functions for minors to use their services.

Game makers have also stepped up anti-addiction measures for minors technically.

On July 5th, on the basis of "play limit, charge limit, curfew" for real-named minors, Tencent Health System officially launched the "zero cruise" function, mainly for night games over a certain period of time, real-named adult accounts Focus on face screening.

Netease also upgraded its anti-addiction measures for minors this summer, combining big data and artificial intelligence to identify minors' fraudulent use of adult accounts, and intervene in advance for minors who consume irrationally.

However, the large-scale adult game account rental industry chain makes the "anti-addiction" of minor games useless.

A game industry insider told reporters that identity recognition is the key to the implementation of the game anti-addiction system.

This means that once a minor enters the game through a game account that has been verified by renting an adult's real name, it will be difficult for the anti-addiction system to fully supervise it.

"Even if there are people who focus on face screening, they still miss out on ten thousand."

Regarding game account rental behavior, the reporter noted that many game companies such as Tencent, Alibaba, Netease, Sogou, etc. have emphasized in the "User Agreement" of their games that it is forbidden to sell, rent, transfer or share game accounts without the company's permission. To others.

Tencent also recently sued more than a dozen third-party game trading platforms such as Tao Mobile Games, DD373, and 5173, demanding to stop trading.

For all relevant departments, if they want to prevent minors from indulging in online games, they also need to fill in obvious regulatory loopholes such as "renting accounts", and increase penalties for illegal network operators to form a deterrent effect.
