The German media group Axel Springer, publisher of the tabloid

, announced on Thursday the purchase of the American news site Politico.

The transaction was also made the acquisition of the technological information site Protocol.

Axel Springer did not specify the amount paid to Robert Allbritton, founder and director of the site.

however, mentions the sum of "at least 630 million euros" for this investment, presented by the daily as "the largest" in the history of the German group.

Axel Springer, who has taken a digital turn in recent years, already operated equally the American media Politico Europe, which explores the mysteries of the European Union.

The German group will therefore now own all of the shares in Politico Europe.

Politico, founded in 2007 and employing around 500 journalists, and Axel Springer “share a commitment to journalistic independence and impartial, non-militant information.
