A call to order.

The National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) demanded Tuesday, in a press release, the respect of the rules of ethics by scientists speaking, without special skills, on the subject of vaccination against Covid-19.

This declaration follows calls from sociologists and citizens demanding from the CNRS a firm reaction to the words of sociologist Laurent Mucchielli.

He said that the vaccination against Covid-19 was at the origin of an "unprecedented mortality" in France.

"Ephemeral media glory"

The CNRS "deplores the public positions taken by certain scientists, often more concerned with ephemeral media glory than scientific truth, on subjects far from their fields of professional expertise such as vaccination against Covid".

It recalls the recommendation of its ethics committee, that by "speaking in the public space, the researcher engages his scientific responsibility" and, that consequently, it is up to him to specify in what capacity he takes the responsibility. word: as a specialist, as a representative of a research organization "or as a citizen, committed or even militant".

An article deleted by Mediapart

Laurent Mucchielli, sociologist and research director at CNRS, specialist in delinquency, published on July 30 on the “blog” section of Mediapart an article, co-signed with five other people, calling for the vaccination campaign to be suspended on the grounds that it was "potentially" responsible for nearly 1,000 deaths as a result of adverse reactions.

The article was deleted by Mediapart because it violates, according to the press organ, its Charter which excludes "the dissemination of false news".

Eight sociologists castigated, in a column published in the newspaper

Le Monde

, "at best an inadmissible misinterpretation and, at worst, a falsification of data" by the researcher.

Believing them to be responsible for “abuses” tarnishing the reputation of their discipline, they demanded a firm reaction from the CNRS against it.
