A prisoner of Brest (Finistère) was found dead on the night of Sunday 22 to Monday 23 August.

An investigation was opened by the Brest prosecutor's office to determine the circumstances and causes of death.

According to Ouest-France, the death of the detainee who was in his thirties would not be natural.

The prisoner is said to have suffered violence from his fellow detainee.

The 30-something's lifeless body was discovered around 4 a.m.

The other occupant of the cell would have immediately admitted being the author of the facts, specifies the daily on the basis of the testimony of a union of prison guards.

The UFAP denounces a situation of prison overcrowding within the remand center open since 1990. In May, it accommodated 434 prisoners while it has only 250 theoretical places within its walls.
