A young vacationer from Germany died on Mallorca immediately after a swim in the sea.

The 19-year-old died on the beach of Platja Muro not far from Port d'Alcúdia in the northeast of the Spanish Mediterranean island, reported the "Mallorca Zeitung" and other regional media on Sunday, citing the authorities.

The Guardia Civil police unit confirmed these media reports on request.

According to the reports, the young man was on the beach with his sister on Saturday night.

After swimming in the sea, he suddenly complained of malaise when leaving the water and started coughing up and spitting up blood.

Shortly afterwards he slumped.

The medical staff who had been summoned tried to resuscitate the German for about an hour on the beach.

Shortly before 8 p.m., the doctors could only have determined that he was dead.

According to the sister, the young man suffered from a congenital heart defect and had therefore already had one operation.

The Guardia Civil (civil guard) nevertheless initiated an investigation according to its own information.

A coroner should be turned on, it said.

Exactly where the tourist from Germany came from was initially not disclosed.
