Eight deaths from Hurricane Grace have now been reported in Mexico.

Six victims came from one family, the authorities said on Saturday.

According to data from the United States' National Hurricane Center (NHC), the cyclone quickly lost its force on its way west over mainland Mexico.

Nevertheless, heavy rains and floods occurred in the east of the country.

In some places the power went out.

"The state of emergency is not over," said the governor of the state of Veracruz, Cuitlahuac Garcia Jiménez on Saturday. In nearly two dozen towns in the state of Veracruz, trees have been uprooted, electricity pylons have been overturned and streets have been flooded. The utility company CFE announced that over half a million people were temporarily cut off from the electricity supply. Several flights to Veracruz, Tampico, Reynosa, Culiacan and Huatulco were canceled because of the storm.

"Grace" was a tropical storm on Thursday over the Mexican peninsula Yucatán, which is popular with holidaymakers. It caused damage and extensive power outages, but people were not harmed. Before its second passage through Mexico, which had now begun, the tropical cyclone "Grace" had gained strength and had again been upgraded to a hurricane.
