[Explanation] At No. 140 Baobao Street, Daowai District, Harbin, a small red building is hidden among the greenery. On the square in front of the small building stands a sculpture of a figure with glasses looking into the distance, solemn and quiet.

But who would have thought that more than 100 years ago, this man faced a terrible and dangerous epidemic on this land, and it was he who turned the tide and completely controlled the rare epidemic in less than four months. The epidemic of severe infectious diseases in China has saved thousands of lives.

He is Dr. Wu Liande, who is known as the "Pioneer of China's National Defense Epidemic Cause".

[Explanation] This building is the Wu Liande Memorial Hall completed in 2008. Walking here seems to touch the legendary life of Dr. Wu Liande.

Wu Liande was born in Penang, Malaysia in 1879. At the age of 17, he ranked first in the British exam and won a scholarship. He went to Cambridge University to study medicine.

He is the first Chinese PhD at Cambridge University, and this piece in the picture is the doctoral uniform he once added.

At the end of 1910, a terrible pneumonic plague suddenly broke out in Northeast China.

Those infected with the plague developed fever, headache, chest tightness, dry cough... and eventually died of suffocation.

On Christmas Eve on December 24, 1910, Wu Liande, who was only 31 years old, brought his assistant and simple medical equipment, and faced the surging crowd of refugees, headed northeast and arrived in Harbin. After a series of prevention and control measures were implemented against all the people’s opinions, the death toll in the city dropped sharply, and the number of infected people decreased. On March 1, 1911, the 67th day he arrived in Harbin, with zero o’clock. With the ringing of the bell, within 24 hours, there was no plague infection in Harbin, and no infected person died.

In the next few days, the infection and death rate were both zero.

In a window of the memorial hall, the reporter saw the masks designed by Dr. Wu Liande that people were wearing during the epidemic.

There was no such relatively standardized protective measure in the world before, which means that after it has determined the route of infection, there must be a prevention and control measure for healthy people, but what is the prevention and control measure to achieve it, so He invented the mask himself, that is, the original mask prototype was three straps, but in the end it was more convenient, so it later evolved into this two-strap mask, and finally evolved into the mask we are today.

[Explanation] Cheng Li introduced to reporters that in 1913, an American named Garrison published a "History of Medicine", which became an international authoritative work and textbook at that time, but this book was not enough to introduce Chinese medicine. One page, this aroused the great indignation of Dr. Wu Liande, and indirectly contributed to the publication of the English version of "Chinese Medical History".

At that time, he saw that there was only less than one page about the culture of Chinese medicine, and there were many errors in it, so he wrote to the author and asked him, that is, our Chinese medicine culture is extensive and profound, and there are many valuable things. Why did you just write it? Just one page, and there are many errors in it, then after receiving Wu Liande’s letter, the author quickly replied to him saying that I have not seen any introduction to your Chinese medicine culture in the world, so if you think your Chinese medicine culture is extensive and profound , There are many valuable things, why don't you promote it yourself?

Well, this incident touched Dr. Wu Liande a lot, so he worked with Dr. Jimin Wang to complete China’s first English version of Chinese Medical History in 16 years, to introduce the world to the world a classic work of Chinese medicine culture, so later generations called it. As "Wang Wu Medical History".

[Explanation] Since 1923, Wu Liande has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of customs quarantine rights from foreigners.

With his efforts, the China Seaport Quarantine Administration Office was established in Shanghai on July 1, 1930. Wu Liande served as the first director and formulated the "Customs Quarantine Regulations" and other series of regulations.

Today, customs and quarantine departments still play a vital role in fighting the new crown pneumonia epidemic and preventing foreign imports.

There are three colors of lights. The blue one is the epidemic prevention hospital and epidemic prevention station established in the Northeast during the epidemic prevention period of Wu Liande, the red one is the large-scale comprehensive medical institution established by Dr. Wu Liande, and the green one is Dr. Wu Liande for recycling. As well as the newly built seaport quarantine hospital and quarantine station, it can be clearly seen from the map that Wu Liande has traveled throughout most of China in the past 30 years of working in China.
