The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has set up a base university to strengthen domestic vaccine development and production systems, and has decided to embark on a new project to support research funding over the next 10 years.

We are planning to include more than 6.5 billion yen in the budget request for the next fiscal year.

In response to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the government is advocating the development of domestic vaccines and the strengthening of the production system.



The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has decided to openly solicit universities from Japan to support its research funds and to embark on a new project to support research funds over the next 10 years.



At this base, we would like to work on fields such as AI = artificial intelligence and genomic medicine in collaboration with other universities, clinical sites, and industry, and promote research and development of world-class vaccines.



First of all, it is envisioned that more than 6.5 billion yen will be included in the budget request for the next fiscal year, and that researchers from home and abroad will be gathered from a long-term perspective.



In addition, we plan to include more than 3.8 billion yen in the budget request to support overseas research bases and investigate trends in infectious diseases, and we would like to strengthen the development of vaccines and pharmaceuticals.
