Louvre Abu Dhabi and Richard Mille announce jury for “Art Now 2021”

The Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum and the Swiss watch brand Richard Mille have revealed the names of the jury for the inaugural edition of the exhibition “Art of Now 2021” and the Richard Mille Art Prize at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The jury includes four members from diverse artistic fields, including artistic evaluation and architecture. and museum institutions, namely: His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Unlimited AAM platform, one of the major art collectors and patrons of the Pompidou Center, the British Museum, Sharjah Art Foundation and Honorary Sponsor of “Art Dubai”, in addition to Christine Masel. Hala Warda, architect, founder of HW Architects and partner of Jean Nouvel who led the Louvre Abu Dhabi project, and Dr. Soraya Noujeim, Director of the Department of Art Collections, Curators and Scientific Research at Louvre Abu Dhabi.

In the first stage, the committee will select a number of artists who have applied to participate in the exhibition, knowing that the door for submission is still open until September 11, 2021. In the second stage, with the opening of the exhibition, the jury will award the winner the Richard Mille Art Prize, which is $50,000.

In this context, Dr. Soraya Njeim, Director of the Department of Art Collections, Curators and Scientific Research at Louvre Abu Dhabi, said: “The Art of Now 2021 exhibition breathes new life into Louvre Abu Dhabi, as it not only celebrates the past, but also traces its roots to the present by presenting Contemporary art through interaction with contemporary artists, and at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with Richard Mille, we are pleased to launch this new chapter in the museum’s ongoing journey towards expanding the field of contemporary art, and supporting local artistic talent, and we are pleased in the first session to have the support of members of the jury International esteemed dignitaries, who, through their participation, have confirmed their continued commitment to the Museum and their interest in the local contemporary art scene.”

The artists selected by the jury will present their works in the exhibition “The Art of Now 2021”, which will be held in the Louvre Abu Dhabi gallery, from November 16, 2021 to March 27, 2022. Exhibiting artists to win the first edition of the Richard Mille Art Prize.

The museum had invited artists residing in the country, in the inaugural exhibition session entitled “In Memory, Time and Place”, to present their presentations that revolve around the topic at hand.

It is noteworthy that artists can submit presentations until September 11, through the Louvre Abu Dhabi website.
