Vaccines After vaccinating more than 80 percent of its population, Chile launches to apply the third dose
Turkey announced Monday that it will begin administering a
fourth dose
of the COVID-19 vaccine to people
over the age of 60 and medical personnel
who have been immunized with the Chinese drug
Sinovac
, the semi-public agency Anadolu reported.
The fourth dose can be requested
21 days after
receiving the third, as explained to the media by the Scientific Committee, an advisory body of the Government.
Since July 1, Turkey offers people over sixty years of age and medical personnel the possibility of inoculating themselves with a
third dose of the Chinese Sinovac or German Pfizer vaccine
to enhance the creation of antibodies.
The authorities believe that a third dose could better protect the population that received the Chinese vaccine - which according to Turkey is 83% effective - from the coronavirus variants present in the country, such as Delta or Delta Plus.
The Government recommends a fourth dose of the German Pfizer vaccine for those traveling abroad who need to prove to foreign authorities that they have been given two doses of the German vaccine.
He also recommends
health personnel who received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine and one from Pfizer
, inoculate themselves with a fourth dose to strengthen the antibodies.
Of the more than 83 million inhabitants of Turkey,
33 million are immunized with the full course
of a covid vaccine, while another 44 million are awaiting the second dose.
Coronavirus cases have increased in recent weeks.
The accumulated incidence of covid-19 in recent days stood at 191 infections per 100,000 inhabitants yesterday.
