What kind of face did Date Masamune, the first feudal lord of the Sendai domain, look like?

A model that was precisely restored using the latest technology was made and delivered to the ghost "Zuihoden" in Sendai, where Masamune sleeps.

This restored model was jointly produced by Zuihoden, a ghost of Date Masamune, and the National Science Museum in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture.

First of all, Mr. Kazuhiro Sakagami of the National Science Museum analyzed the shape and characteristics in detail based on the model made from the bones of the head, which is believed to belong to the actual Masamune in the Zuihoden.

Then, craftsmen who restore the face from the shape of the bones and experts in cosmetology archeology reproduce the hairstyle based on the latest research results, and it takes about 4 months in total to look like they were in their 40s. Revived.

The model, in which the texture of the skin and each eyebrow are depicted in detail, has a thin cheek that is slightly dented, giving the impression of a smooth nose and a tied mouth.

Mr. Sakagami said, "From the shape of the corners of the eyes and chin, it is thought that he had a very handsome face. The dent in the bone of the head is smaller than the left eye, and it is presumed that he lost his right eye when he was young." I have.

Date Yasumune, the honorary director of the Zuihoden Museum and the head of the Date family's eighteenth generation, said, "I'm so happy that I can't say anything about the future town development of Sendai."

Zuihoden will prepare for the exhibition of this model in the future.
