China News Service, Hong Kong, August 16 (Reporter Han Xingtong) The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 16th that it will tighten the quarantine requirements for people arriving in Hong Kong from 16 overseas regions. The relevant arrangements will be implemented at midnight on August 20.

The SAR government has upgraded 15 overseas regions from designated areas of medium-risk group B to designated areas of high-risk group A, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, France, Greece, Iran, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and the United States.

At the same time, the SAR government also upgraded Australia from a designated area of low-risk group C to a designated area of medium-risk group B.

The Scientific Committee on Vaccine Preventable Diseases and the Scientific Committee on New Discoveries and Infectious Animal Diseases under the Center for Health Protection held a joint meeting on the same day.

After the meeting, Xu Shuchang, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of Animal Infectious Diseases, said in a meeting with reporters that from April to August 11, Hong Kong had recorded 52 imported cases that had been vaccinated against the new crown. 88% of the confirmed patients had the variant virus, mainly L452R variant virus.

Among these cases, 88.5% of the confirmed cases were diagnosed within 7 days after arrival in Hong Kong, and 6 cases were diagnosed on the 8th to 14th day after arrival in Hong Kong.

The above-mentioned figures show that if the quarantine period of the hotel for arrivals who have been vaccinated is 7 days, about 12% of the cases will be leaked.

Xu Shuchang pointed out that with the emergence of the delta variant virus, the amount of virus carried after vaccination or not will be similar, and the virus can still be transmitted to others. Therefore, the Scientific Committee recommends that people who arrive in Hong Kong outside the designated area of Group A should arrive in Hong Kong. The compulsory quarantine period of the Hong Kong Hotel has been extended to 14 days, plus 7 days of self-monitoring.
