It took 90 firefighters and 20 vehicles to overcome the low scrubland and pine forest fire that broke out this Monday at dawn in the town of Montbazin, near Montpellier.

The firefighters managed to fix the fire at around 10 a.m. but the flames, which left on the outskirts of a sheepfold, had already devastated 25 hectares of vegetation.

The causes of this incident are not yet known.

On their Facebook page, the Hérault firefighters call on residents to be extremely vigilant while the department is placed in "severe risk" of fire until Tuesday, due to the wind blowing on a landscape parched by the heat wave.

“No cigarette butt out the window, no forestry work or near vegetation, and no barbecue in a natural area,” they urge.

They also advise dialing 112 at the slightest suspicious smoke.
