M12 is an imitation wooden single-chamber brick tomb, which is composed of a tomb passage, a tomb gate, a passage and a tomb chamber.

On the blue bricks built above the tomb door, there are three characters "Great Auspiciousness" in an ink pen vertical script.

The tomb decoration is composed of brick carvings and colored paintings. The brick carvings are mainly concentrated on the walls and doors of the tomb, and the colored paintings are all over the brick chambers except the tomb passage.

The male and female tomb masters are carved on the north wall of the tomb. The two sit on back chairs with a table on each side. A plate of peach-shaped fruit or pastry is placed on the table.

The female tomb master wears a round bun on her head and wears a tube top on her body, with a hand held on her chest; the male tomb master is wrapped in a black scarf on her head, wearing a long shirt with long sleeves, and holding a string of rosary beads on her chest.

According to Yang Jiyun, an associate researcher of the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology, from the perspective of tomb decoration methods, both M12 and M14 adopt brick carvings, which are in line with the characteristics of similar tombs in southern Shanxi.

From the perspective of the decoration content and detailed depiction, the sculptures of the owners of the tombs M12 and M14 chanting sutras and reciting the Buddha facing each other are similar to those of the Jin Dynasty tombs in other parts of China.

The north wall of M12 is carved with images of male and female tomb owners.

Judging from the unearthed artifacts, the porcelain pillows are similar to those unearthed from the Jin Tomb of Haojiazhuang in Changzhi, Shanxi, the second year of Dading (1162) in the Shanghai Museum, and the fifth year of Taihe (1205) of the Hebei Museum.

It can be seen that the two brick tombs were built in the middle of the Jin Dynasty, roughly between the reigns of King Hailing and Zhangzong.

Yang Jiyun said that the M12 and M14 excavated this time are located in the same cemetery, and the owners of the tombs should be from the same family.

No relics can be found in the tomb to prove the identity of the tomb owner, so he believes that he should be a Han under the rule of the Jin people, who belonged to the wealthier class at that time.
