On August 15, local time, South Korean President Moon Jae-in attended the 76th anniversary of South Korea's recovery and delivered a speech.

He expounded the policy direction of the South Korean government and expressed views on issues such as the Peninsula issue, South Korea-Japan relations, and the prevention and control of new crown pneumonia.

  Moon Jae-in said that it is necessary to build a "vaccine hub country."

South Korea, headed by the "Global Vaccine Hub Promotion Committee" established on the 5th of this month, provides strong support from the development of vaccine raw and auxiliary materials to the adjustment of supply and demand; it will further enhance South Korea's role in the global supply chain.

South Korea will consolidate its leading position in the semiconductor and battery industries; in response to the climate crisis, South Korea will do everything it can to earnestly perform its duties.

A feasible NDC emission reduction commitment target for 2030 will be established within this year.

  Talking about the peninsula issue, Moon Jae-in said that even if more time is needed for North and South reunification, the two sides can coexist peacefully and create a peninsula model that contributes to the prosperity of Northeast Asia through the denuclearization of the peninsula and the establishment of a lasting peace mechanism.

  Regarding the relationship between South Korea and Japan, Moon Jae-in said that after the restoration of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Japan, based on the common values ​​of democracy and market economy, they have achieved economic growth through division of labor and cooperation for a long time. This is also the direction for the two countries to work together in the future.

  With regard to issues left over from history, the South Korean side will take practical actions to resolve relevant issues based on the universal values ​​and standards of the international community.

  Regarding the new crown epidemic, Moon Jae-in said that South Korea is steadily controlling the epidemic. By October, 70% of the people will complete the entire vaccination process, and the South Korean government will further increase the target vaccination rate.
