The National Archives organized a virtual lecture entitled: “An Introduction to British Documents: Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al-Ain… A Model for the Study,” presented by the researcher and historian, Dr. Hamdan Al-Duraei.

During the lecture, Al Derei reviewed the historical framework of the stage in which the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, represented the ruler in the Al Ain region, pointing to the great role that Sheikh Zayed played in Al Ain, as the signs of his unitary thought that preceded his time appeared. He shone as a leader and is a symbol of wisdom and sincerity, as he promoted vital projects in the administration of education and school building, in the field of agriculture and agrarian reform, encouraging farmers to farm, and reviving the commercial movement that met with success in the Al Ain region.

Al Derei said: "The period that Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan spent in the Al Ain region (1946-1966), during which he embarked on implementing his huge project to provide fresh water, worked on digging and reclaiming aflaj, eliminating the water monopoly, and was able to achieve social justice. And his role grew and his star shined.”

The lecture - which attracted the attention of researchers from inside and outside the National Archives - began by introducing the science of history and its importance, the document and its role in writing history.

Al-Duraei reviewed the most important scientific sources for the study of history, noting that the archives of the British Government of India contain documents that monitor British activities in the region and the areas administratively affiliated with the British Government of India, from the 17th to the 20th century.

He pointed out that the documents of the British Foreign Office and the British National Archives can be benefited from in matters of the history of the region.

He praised the personal archives of dignitaries who spent part of their lives as officials in the Emirates.

The lecturer stressed the importance of scientific integrity in examining what was stated in the documents, and subjecting them to scrutiny and study.

On the stage of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, representing the ruler in Al Ain, Dr. Al Darei sheds light on the historical framework of Sheikh Zayed, indicating the leadership roles he played at various levels, his hobbies, the sports he practiced, his efforts in accompanying oil exploration teams, and his journey with The British traveler Buckmaster in 1954 to the western region, which lasted two full months, and that trip was the first census of the population and oases.

Under the title "Zayed and Unionist Thought", the lecturer spoke about unity in Sheikh Zayed's thought and conscience, and his efforts on the path to achieving union.
