Great victory for Britney Spears.

Her father agreed to give up assuming the tutelage he has exercised for 13 years over the singer.

The young American star had launched an ultra-publicized legal offensive to him so that he no longer had a say in his personal and financial affairs.

Jamie Spears intends to "work with the court and his daughter's new lawyer to prepare for a smooth transition to a new guardian," his lawyers say in new legal documents cited Thursday August 12 by the news site people TMZ.

This victory sounds like a turnaround for the one who first said he would challenge the legal process initiated by Britney Spears to withdraw this controversial tutelage.

This measure gives her father full control over his finances since 2008, when the singer had raised concerns for his mental health after a well-publicized descent into hell.

"Is a change of guardian now in Ms Spears' best interests? This is highly questionable," her father's attorneys write in their document.

"Nevertheless, although Britney Spears is the target of bitter and unwarranted attacks, he does not think that a public battle with his daughter over her role as guardian is in the best interest" of the singer, add the lawyers, without saying when exactly the father was planning to leave this role.

Britney Spears' attorney Mathew Rosengart welcomed the announcement in a statement.

“Justice is done for Britney,” he said.

"Free Britney"

But as a sign that this family and money affair may be far from over, the lawyer promises to "continue our vigorous investigation into the behavior of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years. that he was collecting millions of dollars from his daughter's possessions. And he says he is "disappointed" by the "shameful and reprehensible attacks underway against Mrs. Spears and others" from, according to him, his father and the latter's lawyer.

Jamie Spears has defended his role in recent years.

"If people were aware of all the facts in Ms. Spears' personal life, not just the ups but also the downs, all the mental health and addiction issues that affected her, and all the challenges of life. guardianship, they would praise Mr Spears for the work he did, they would not vilify him, "the documents wrote.

For years, an army of fans has been campaigning on social networks (but also sometimes in the street with rallies) to "free" the singer, dissecting every gesture and saying they see calls for help.
