A 63-year-old man killed his wife with whom he had been married "for more than 30 years" with a gunfire Thursday afternoon in Porto-Vecchio (Corse-du-Sud), said the prosecutor from Ajaccio.

“We have a woman born in 1960, married for more than 30 years to a man born in 1958. A neighbor heard a detonation, he came to the house and discovered the man, a gun in his hand, who had come from 'kill his wife with a single shot,' said Carine Greff, prosecutor of the Republic of Ajaccio, specifying that the facts had occurred around 3 pm.

The gendarmes of the search brigade went to the place, to the hamlet of Pionelli, and arrested the sixty-year-old, she said.

This feminicide is "quite rare" in Corsica, underlined the magistrate.

In March 2019, Bruno Garcia-Cruciani had killed his ex-wife Julie Douib with several pistol bullets in Ile-Rousse (Haute-Corse).

He was sentenced last June to life imprisonment with a 22-year safety sentence, but he has appealed against this sentence.

The last murder of a spouse in Corse-du-Sud dates back to August 2016 when a 64-year-old woman had killed her husband in Ucciani, recalled Ms. Greff.

She was sentenced to 18 years of criminal imprisonment in November 2020 on appeal to the Bastia Assize Court.
