It has been 36 years since the crash of a JAL jumbo jet that killed 520 people in 12 days.

In Ueno Village, Gunma Prefecture, where the crash occurred, a memorial service began at 6 pm, but due to the influence of the new coronavirus, only some people concerned such as the village and Japan Airlines attended. I am.

On August 12, 1985, a jumbo jet of Japan Airlines carrying returnees from Obon crashed in the mountains of Ueno Village, Gunma Prefecture, killing 520 people, the largest number of aircraft accidents in Japan.

On the 12th, 36 years after the accident, bereaved families and others visited the village to climb the memorial service aiming for the "Minetaka ridge" at the crash site, but it seems that some people gave up because of the new corona and old age. As of 4:00 pm on the 12th, the number of visitors was 143 in 50 families, which is less than usual.

In addition, a memorial service began at 6 pm at the "Memorial Garden" at the foot of the mountain, but to prevent the spread of the infection, the bereaved family did not participate, and officials from the village and Japan Airlines, etc. Only about 20 people are present.

On the other hand, villages and others prepared for the bereaved family to commemorate the victims before the ceremony, and according to the village, about 70 people visited to donate flowers.

At the ceremony, 520 candles, the same number as the number of victims, were lit, and at 6:56 pm, the time of the crash, a silent prayer was made to mourn the victims, and the sky was empty so that tragic accidents would not be repeated. I pray for safety.
